Mitigating power quality disturbances in smart grid using FACTS

Power quality (PQ) assurance is a vital part of electrical distribution networks. There are many advantages and benefits improving PQ, especially in the modern/smart grid. Smart grid (SG) has lot complicated sensitive components (non-linear loads) addition to renewable energy systems (wind-solar) that may also be source PQ disturbances. problems harm personal life national production. Static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) unified power conditioner (UPQC) among fastest response flexible alternating current transmission (FACTS) installed smart grids mitigate disturbances such as voltage fluctuations, sag, swell, harmonics. In this research, STATCOM UPQC designed simulated MATLAB/Simulink overcome PQ-related disruptions grids. Accordingly, differences between proposed two solutions highlighted across research sources' reliability during faults. Therefore, reader will able choose appropriate FACTS devices.
